Ellis & Winters LLP was formed in 2000 as a new kind of North Carolina law firm: A select cadre of lawyers providing sophisticated legal services to blue-chip clients. With a strong emphasis on customer service, the ten founding lawyers set out to offer premier legal services efficiently, but with the intense involvement of the firm's most senior partners. Concentrating in complex litigation and commercial real estate, the firm's lawyers have been called upon in some of the state's most important disputes and transactions, including a $424 million North Carolina Supreme Court victory and a $100 million corporate acquisition. The business community has taken notice, naming more than half of the firm's members to Business North Carolina's Legal Elite, and according a similarly disproportionate representation among the Best Lawyers in America. Nowhere has the recognition been as overwhelming as in the North Carolina Super Lawyers, which has recognized nine of the firm's 15 partners. Now, nine years after the firm's inception, the Ellis & Winters model has flourished. Its 34 lawyers provide legal services to more than 30 members of the Fortune 500. With offices in Raleigh and Greensboro, the firm continues to attract the finest attorneys with significant trial, appellate, and transactional experience. Ellis & Winters lawyers are also active in leading organizations in the legal profession, such as the American Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Defense Research Institute, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. Members of the firm frequently write and speak on professional issues involving their areas of concentration. Ellis & Winters lawyers are committed to the local community. The firm's attorneys have served on such boards as the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the Cary Chamber of Commerce, the North Carolina School of Science and Math Foundation, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, as well as on the boards of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, Artspace and Special Olympics of North Carolina. Lawyers in the firm also serve on many other professional, civic, church and community boards, councils and committees. Ellis & Winters sponsorships and financial support
