On September 13, 2019, Ellis & Winters partner Stephen Feldman presented on effective appellate briefing techniques to the annual meeting of the North Carolina Bar Association Appellate Practice Section. His presentation included a discussion of feedback from judges and law clerks from the North Carolina Court of Appeals in response to a survey that Stephen prepared on legal writing.
Stephen is a frequent speaker and author on effective legal writing. A complete list of his presentations and articles can be found here. This list includes a prior presentation to the Appellate Practice Section on specific ideas to enhance briefs that will be read on screens, rather than on paper.
Stephen concentrates his practice in complex business disputes, antitrust, and appeals. He is the former chair of the Appellate Practice Section of the ABA’s Section of Litigation, and he is the vice-chair of both the North Carolina Bar Association Appellate Practice Section and the Appellate Practice Committee of the Federation of Defense and Corporation Counsel. Following law school, Stephen served as a law clerk for the Honorable Pasco M. Bowman II of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
