Weiss Leads Defense Research Institute Swearing-In Ceremony at U.S. Supreme Court

On March 23, 2015, Ellis & Winters partner Jamie Weiss organized and ran the annual swearing-in event in Washington, D.C. for the Defense Research Institute’s Young Lawyers Committee. As part of the event, Weiss moved the admission of 11 lawyers and members of DRI before the U.S. Supreme Court. Weiss currently serves as the Chair of the Supreme Court Subcommittee of DRI’s Young Lawyers Committee.
To qualify for admission to the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, applicants must complete an Application for Admission to Practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, which contains a personal statement of the applicant. Applicants must also have the endorsements of two sponsors who are current members of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar. In addition, applicants must also obtain a Certificate of Good Standing from the presiding judge, clerk, or authorized official of the highest court of their states and have been a member of the Bar of such court for at least three years. Applicants meeting the criteria may be admitted to the Supreme Court Bar in open court or upon written motion admission in which a certificate of admittance is mailed to the applicant.
Jamie Weiss focuses his litigation practice in the areas of higher education, complex business disputes, and departing employees. He has represented clients as diverse as Fortune 500 companies, private universities, a manufacturer of carbon fiber composites, and a developer of K-12 educational software. Weiss has been listed as a North Carolina Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in business litigation since 2013. He received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, where he was Order of the Coif and an Executive Articles Editor of the Washington University Law Review. Weiss was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 2013.
