Ellis & Winters names Dixie Wells partner
Ellis & Winters is pleased to announce that Dixie T. Wells has been named a partner of the firm, effective September 2011.
Both a licensed professional engineer and an attorney, Dixie Wells has a broad litigation practice with a special focus on complex litigation and product liability.
Dixie’s stellar academic credentials and professional accomplishments epitomize Ellis & Winters’ commitment to assembling the finest legal talent to support the growth and success of the firm’s clients.
Dixie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (B.S.E.), magna cum laude, in 1991, from Duke University, where she was a Benjamin N. Duke Scholar. In 1993, she earned an M.S. degree from the University of Virginia, and subsequently served as a research scientist with the Virginia Transportation Research Council, focusing on the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and replacement of bridges. She earned her professional engineer license in North Carolina in 1996.
That same year, she entered Wake Forest University School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in 1999 as a Fletcher Scholar and member of the Order of the Coif. Dixie also served as the Editor-in-Chief of Law Review and participated as a team member in the Robert F. Wagner National Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Competition.
Following graduation, Dixie clerked for the Honorable N. Carlton Tilley, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina from 1999-2000. She was subsequently associated with Smith, Helms, Mulliss, & Moore, LLP; with Smith Moore, LLP; and served as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Practice at Elon University School of Law (2008); Dixie joined Ellis & Winters LLP in 2008.
Dixie is admitted to practice in North Carolina (1999), before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and all State and Federal Courts in North Carolina. She is a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, a Senior Barrister and member of the Board of Directors of the Chief Justice Branch Inn of Court, and a member of the Engineering Alumni Council of the Duke University Pratt School of Engineering. She has been named to 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions of Best Lawyers in America for bet-the-company litigation and commercial litigation.
