American Bar Association

Founded in 1878, the American Bar Association is the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the world, and comprises lawyers and law students not specific to any jurisdiction in the United States. The ABA’s mission is to “serve equally [our] members, [our] profession and the public by defending liberty and delivering justice as the national representative of the legal profession.” The ABA aims to eliminate bias in the legal profession and the justice system while working to advance the Rule of Law.

American Board of Trial Advocates 

The American Board of Trial Advocates is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges who are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. ABOTA’s mission is to “…foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy to the end that individual litigants may receive more effective representation and the general public be benefited by more efficient administration of justice consistent with time-tested and traditional principles of litigation.”

American College of Trial Lawyers 

The American College of Trial Lawyers is an invitation-only fellowship of exceptional trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds from the U.S. and Canada. ACTL maintains and seeks to improve the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics, and the administration of justice through education and public statements on important legal issues relating to its mission.

American Correctional Association 

The American Correctional Association is an organization for public and private individuals and groups that aim to improve the justice system. According to its vision statement, “The American Correctional Association shapes the future of corrections through strong, progressive leadership that brings together various voices and forges coalitions and partnerships to promote the concepts embodied in its Declaration of Principles.” Goals include membership, diversity, professional development, standards and accreditation, research and education, public perception of corrections, international relations, and ethics.

American Law Institute 

The American Law Institute is an independent organization in the U.S. producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. ALI drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of Law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.

American Society for Healthcare Risk Management 

The American Society for Health Care Risk Management is a professional membership group of the American Hospital Association (AHA) with nearly 6,000 members representing risk management, patient safety, insurance, law, and finance. ASHRM promotes risk management strategies and professional leadership through education, recognition, advocacy, publications, and networking with leading health care organizations and government agencies. ASHRM is committed to focusing on effective patient care practices, financial management and maintaining safe work environments.

Associated Builders & Contractors, Carolinas Chapter 

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national construction industry trade association representing more than 21,000 members. Founded on the merit shop philosophy, ABC and its 69 chapters help members develop people, win work, and deliver that work safely, ethically, and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members work.

Association of Corporate Counsel 

Founded as the American Corporate Counsel Association in 1981, the Association of Corporate Counsel is a global bar association that promotes the common professional and business interests of in-house counsel through information, education, networking opportunities, and advocacy initiatives.

Association of Defense Trial Attorneys

The Association of Defense Trial Attorneys has two main objectives: to provide an opportunity for the proven successful defense trial attorneys to associate with similarly qualified trial attorneys for professional, social and business purposes, and to identify the successful defense trial attorney for those persons in search of such an attorney.

Cary Chamber of Commerce 

The Cary Chamber of Commerce promotes economic growth through actively engaging existing and future businesses and supporting civic activities that contribute to the quality of life in Cary. Committees include Economic Development, Education, Government Relations and Member Business Services.

Defense Research Institute 

DRI advocates the role attorneys play in representing businesses and individuals in civil matters while enhancing skills and professionalism of defense attorneys. DRI has served the defense bar for more than 50 years and focuses on five primary goals: education, justice, balance, economics, and professionalism and service. DRI’s mission statement states, “DRI is the international membership organization of all lawyers involved in the defense of civil litigation.”

Federal Bar Association

The Federal Bar Association is dedicated to the advancement of the science of law and the promotion of welfare, interests, education, and professional development of all attorneys involved in federal law. With nearly 100 FBA chapters, the organization focuses on advocacy, networking, leadership, and learning. The FBA is the catalyst for communication between the bar and the bench, comprised with members practicing in small to large legal firms, attorneys in corporations, in federal agencies, and members of the judiciary.

Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel 

The Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel is composed of recognized leaders in the legal community who have achieved professional distinction, is dedicated to promoting knowledge, fellowship, and professionalism of its members as they pursue the course of a balanced justice system and represent those in need of a defense in civil lawsuits. FDCC’s vision is to advance and sustain an equitable civil justice system now, and for future generations, through a community and network of trusted, leading, and innovative industry legal professionals.

International Academy of Trial Lawyers

The International Academy of Trial Lawyers is a group of elite trial lawyers representing both sides of the Bar: prosecutors and defense lawyers in criminal cases, and plaintiffs’ and defense counsel in civil litigation, including business and personal injury cases. Fellowship is obtained by invitation only, after an extremely careful vetting process.

International Association of Defense Counsel

The International Association of Defense Counsel has been serving a distinguished membership of corporate and insurance defense attorneys and insurance executives since 1920. The IADC plays a leadership role in many areas of legal reform and professional development to its nearly 2,500 invitation-only members. Members often look to each other to further promote their skills, their business and to assist with cases or offer counsel.

International Council of Shopping Centers 

The International Council of Shopping Centers promotes and elevates the marketplaces and spaces where people shop, dine, work, play and gather as foundational and vital ingredients of communities and economies. ICSC’s core goals are to advance industry narrative, grow and engage membership, and enhance product and service offerings. ICSC’s core values are service, integrity, teamwork, and diversity.

International Society of Barristers 

The International Society of Barristers is an invitation-only organization that nurtures excellence and professionalism in advocacy by its recognition of members’ achievements and providing an opportunity for them, and their spouses and guests, to meet and find renewal of spirit in the company of others who have traveled a similar road. Their ideals include to retain trial by jury, provide training in trial advocacy, encourage civility in the adversary system, and support and improve our system of justice.

Legatus 

Legatus is an international organization of Catholic business leaders and executives who have committed to study, live, and spread the Catholic faith. The organization consists of likeminded leaders with the ability to serve as ambassadors by infusing their faith into daily lives and workplaces.

Litigation Counsel of America 

The Litigation Counsel of America is an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society established to reflect the new face of the American bar. Membership is limited to 3,500 Fellows, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. LCA is composed of diverse individuals, with recognition of excellence among American litigation and trial counsel across all segments of the bar.

NAIOP | Commercial Real Estate Development Association

NAIOP is one of the largest, most prestigious commercial-real-estate organizations in North America. NAIOP’s mission is to provide advocacy, education, and business opportunities by connecting members in a powerful North American network in the commercial real estate development and investment industry. The group provides solutions to meet the changing demands for how people work, live, shop, and play.

National Foundation for Judicial Excellence 

The National Foundation for Judicial Excellence supports a strong, independent, responsive judiciary by providing officers of the courts with educational programs and other tools that enable them to perform at their highest level. NFJE’s mission is to: “Address important legal policy issues affecting the law and civil justice system by providing meaningful support and education to the judiciary, by publishing scholarly works and by engaging in other efforts to continually enhance and ensure judicial excellence and fairness for all engaged in the judicial process.”

North Carolina Society of Healthcare Attorneys 

The North Carolina Society of Health Care Attorneys (“the Society” or “NCSHCA”) is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide professional education and other services to North Carolina attorneys who have an interest in health care law. The Society serves as a resource to its members with a wide variety of programs and activities that reflect the diversity of health care clients.

North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys 

The North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys is the sole organization in NC devoted to providing resources for educational opportunities, networking and information sharing for civil defense trial attorneys. The NCADA “brings together civil trial attorneys to promote the administration of justice, the exchange of information, ideas, and litigation techniques, and to strengthen the practice, improve the skills, and enhance the knowledge of lawyers who defend individuals and represent businesses in civil cases in North Carolina.”

The North Carolina Correctional Association is dedicated to the improvement of corrections and the training and development of correctional professionals. The purposes of NCCA are to exert a positive influence on shaping the state and national correctional policy, to promote the professional growth and development of its members and to enhance interagency understanding and coordination.

Product Liability Advisory Council 

The Product Liability Advisory Council, Inc (PLAC) is a non-profit association of product manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, and select regulatory, litigation and appellate professionals who work to shape the common law of product liability and complex regulation, provide guidance on changing regulations, and strategically help corporations manage risk throughout the entire product lifecycle. PLAC’s mission is to obtain fairness and balance in the common law of product liability.

Raleigh Chamber of Commerce 

The Raleigh Chamber is a non-profit, membership-based business association serving the community in Raleigh and the surrounding region. The Chamber’s programs and services focus on the three overarching priorities reflected in its mission statement:

Wake County Bar Association

With more than 2,300 members, membership in the Wake County Bar Association is voluntary for lawyers and judges who practice and reside in Wake County and are engaged in private practice, government service, corporate employment, and the judiciary. Its objectives are to promote fellowship among lawyers and judges, to maintain high standards of ethics and professionalism, and to educate the public and media regarding the legal profession.
