Overview
Suraj Vege, a member of the firm’s litigation group, is a graduate of Duke University School of Law, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Louis A. Bledsoe, III, Chief Judge of the North Carolina Business Court in Charlotte, for two years before joining Ellis & Winters. During his clerkship, Suraj worked on complex business cases spanning many areas of the law, including trade secret protection, tortious interference with business relationships, unfair and deceptive trade practices, breaches of fiduciary duty, and disputes between LLC managers and members. He also served as a point of contact for litigants and managed the court’s deadlines and schedule.
A passionate litigator and advocate at heart, Suraj completed two legal internships prior to his Business Court clerkship, one at the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and the other at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania—a national non-profit specializing in First Amendment advocacy on college campuses. He was also the founding officer of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Student Honor Advocates, a student organization dedicated to guiding students accused of misconduct through the UNC Honor System. As director of the organization, Suraj raised awareness for students’ rights on campus, worked with the university administration to strengthen student protections in the Honor System, and taught others about advocating for students. He also worked as an extern at the Office of the Appellate Defender in Durham, North Carolina.
Along with his advocacy work within the legal arena, Suraj has long been involved in the performing arts. He has worked as a member of the technical staff at Carolina Performing Arts in Chapel Hill, is a musician playing the piano, flute, and guitar, and is also a fiction writer. He is conversational in French and Telugu, has knowledge of both Italian and Russian, and is currently teaching himself Japanese.
When not busy practicing law, Suraj is a martial artist who practices Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Boxing, and Aikido. He also loves to travel and go hiking with his wife and two dogs.
