Ellis & Winters Lawyers Speak at NCADA Annual Meeting

Ellis & Winters partners Matt Sawchak and Dixie Wells recently presented at the 2014 annual meeting of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys (NCADA). The event was held June 12th through 14th in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Participants in the meeting included approximately 150 North Carolina lawyers, as well as federal and North Carolina trial and appellate judges.

Matt Sawchak spoke on advanced issues in the law of unfair and deceptive trade practices. Mr. Sawchak focuses his practice on business litigation, antitrust, and appeals. He is the chief editor of “What’s Fair?,” the firm’s new blog on the law of unfair and deceptive trade practices.

Dixie Wells presented “Recent Decisions of Relevance,” a semiannual update on appellate decisions of interest to civil trial practitioners. Ms. Wells practices in the area of litigation, with a special focus on complex litigation in federal court.

Several other Ellis & Winters lawyers were recognized at the meeting for their commitment to the organization. Jon Berkelhammer, having acted as NCADA president from June 2013 to June 2014, was installed as the immediate past-president. Andrew Chamberlin was recognized for completion of a term on the board of directors and Mary Dillon was recognized for completion of a term as co-chair of the membership committee. Additionally, Ashley Brathwaite was installed as chair of the women litigators committee.
