For the Ninth Straight Year, Ellis & Winters Receives High Marks from Chambers USA
For the ninth consecutive year, the Chambers USA directory has accorded top or leading ranking in North Carolina to Ellis & Winters and seven of its lawyers. In the 2013 Chambers USA directory of the leading American law firms and lawyers, the firm is top-rated or highly rated in each of its primary practice areas: antitrust, bankruptcy/restructuring, litigation and real estate.
Ellis & Winters, with 35 lawyers, is one of the smallest law firms in North Carolina to receive these accolades from the independent research publisher Chambers and Partners, considered the most prestigious of law firm rating organizations.
Chambers USA gives its top rating in North Carolina to the firm’s litigation practice, describing it as “one of the finest litigation practices in the state.”
The firm also received Chambers’ highest rating in the state in antitrust. The organization quotes sources as saying, “the firm puts a premium on client service and makes everything seamless.”
The firm’s real estate practice is also highly rated, with Chambers research sources describing the lawyers as “tremendous” with valued “business acumen”.
In addition, the following seven Ellis & Winters attorneys were identified as leading lawyers in their fields:
- Matthew W. Sawchak
- Richard W. Ellis

The Chambers USA directory is published annually by UK-based Chambers and Partners. The independent guide is compiled by a team of more than 50 researchers based on thousands of in-depth telephone interviews with lawyers and clients throughout the United States.
The qualities on which rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment and other characteristics most valued by clients.
