Jonathan D. Sasser Receives 2025 Justice in Action Award from the ACLU of North Carolina
Ellis & Winters partner, Jonathan D. Sasser was honored with the Justice in Action award at the 2025 American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina’s (ACLU-NC) 60th anniversary celebration. The award recognizes those with a legacy of honoring the ACLU’s mission to defend the fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights for all people. The award also distinguishes excellence in pro-bono support and showing up with integrity, generosity, and deep-rooted strength allowing everyone to rise.
The award celebration took place on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Durham. The event celebrated six decades of defending civil liberties and rights in the state with over 300 community members, leaders, and guests. This recognition highlights Jon and his fellow award recipients for their professional legacy as strong advocates for civil rights affairs.
Jon primarily represents businesses involved in complex corporate disputes. His clients include Fortune 500 companies spanning a wide range of industries, including chemistry, petroleum, banking, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, securities, and media. Jon has also taken the reins of cases involving individuals and charitable organizations facing unique legal challenges. He has represented an NFL head coach, death row inmates, high school journalists, public officials, hip-hop musicians, the ACLU, and PETA, among others.
The ACLU-NC brings together litigation, legislative advocacy, communications, and organizing strategies to empower communities and achieve its objectives in major civil-rights issue areas.
