On August 1, 2019, Ellis & Winters partner Stephen Feldman spoke on a panel at the annual meeting of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel in Sun Valley, Idaho on strategies for successful mediation. The panel presentation focused its discussion on special considerations that arise when a mediated settlement conference occurs following a final judgment, during the appellate process. The panel included Sasha Cummings, a mediator for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; Jean Lawler, a mediator in California and former president of the FDCC; and Bob Olson, an attorney at the appellate litigation boutique of Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland LLP.

Stephen concentrates his practice on complex business disputes, antitrust, and appeals. He has served as chair of the American Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Committee and vice-chair of the FDCC’s Appellate Practice Section, and he is the vice-chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section. After law school, Stephen served as an appellate law clerk for the Honorable Pasco M. Bowman II of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

A copy of the manuscript for the program can be found here. A complete list of Stephen’s presentations and publications can be found here. The FDCC is an invitation-only organization of private-practice and in-house attorneys dedicated to promoting knowledge, fellowship, and professionalism of its members.
