Steven Scoggan Appointed to Leadership Positions in State and National Commercial Litigation Professional Organizations
Ellis & Winters LLP attorney Steven Scoggan has recently been appointed to leadership positions with the North Carolina Bar Association’s Antitrust & Complex Business Disputes Law section and DRI’s Commercial Litigation Committee.
Steven will serve as a leadership council member for the Antitrust & Complex Business Disputes Law section. That section focuses on complex commercial and litigation matters, including the law governing unfair and deceptive trade practices, antitrust, and trade secrets and intellectual property. Steven’s role continues Ellis & Winters LLP’s attorneys’ longstanding involvement with the section. Scottie Lee also serves on the section’s leadership council, and Tom Segars is a past chair of the section.
Steven has also been appointed as the chair of the Pretrial and Practice Procedure specialized litigation group of DRI’s Commercial Litigation Committee. This group provides a forum for discussion and education about legal updates and strategic considerations for pretrial practice and procedure in commercial litigation. Topics include electronic discovery, protective orders, preparing and defending company employees in depositions, working with experts, and related matters. Ellis & Winters LLP attorney Jamie Weiss also serves on the leadership team of the Commercial Litigation Committee.
A substantial portion of Steven’s practice is devoted to commercial litigation matters such as business-to-business contract disputes, covenants not to compete, trade secrets, unfair business practices, and disputes among shareholders, officers, and directors of business enterprises. In addition to his service to DRI and the North Carolina Bar Association, Steven writes for the firm’s What’s Fair? blog, which tracks developments in the law governing unfair and deceptive trade practices, competition, and commercial litigation.
