Overview
Grey Howard is a member of the firm’s commercial litigation practice and focuses on business litigation matters in both state and federal court. He joined Ellis & Winters after completing judicial clerkships with two judges on the North Carolina Business Court: Judge Adam M. Conrad in Charlotte, and then Judge Matthew T. Houston in Raleigh. As a judicial clerk, he addressed substantive and procedural issues in a wide range of cases, including contract, trade secret, and internal governance disputes.
Grey earned his law degree from the Duke University School of Law and his B.A. degree in Political Science and Peace, War, and Defense from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While in law school, he was an executive editor of the Duke Law Journal, where he honed his persuasive writing skills and further learned to distinguish substance from insignificant rhetoric. He is a history buff who enjoys reading about American and European history in his free time, as well as an avid consumer of fiction—his favorites include the science fantasy novels of Gene Wolfe and the philosophical works of Fyodor Dostoevsky.
Grey minored in Arabic in college and also studied Portuguese and Spanish during his academic years. He enjoys jogging and playing strategy board games with friends and family. He and his wife live in Raleigh with their Lionhead and Holland Lop rabbits, Wax and Wayne.
